Vet Varsity organizes camp on value addition of milk and packaging machinery

Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana organized Method demonstration and training camp' on value addition of milk for farmers under ICAR sponsored Farmer FIRST Project.
This innovative approach was arranged at the newly adopted village, Qila Raipur, under the project, where the beneficiary farmers were introduced with the concept of value addition of milk. Farmers were trained for various milk products and demonstrations on packaging machinery. It was coordinated by Dr. Gopika Talwar Co-Principal Investigator of the project, Dr. Rekha Chawla and Dr. Gurpreet Kour Tulla. 
Dr. Rekha Chawla trained the beneficiaries for the scientific method of paneer making and answered their queries about the process. She introduced the farmers regarding the various milk products like flavoured milk, khoya, mozzarella cheese, ghee etc. Farmers were told that by enhancing the value of the milk they can get better economic benefits. She sensitized the farmers regarding the importance of scientific method of production of these products that leads to precise investment and ensures good quality of the products.
Dr. Gopika Talwar deliberated on the marketing of the products through packaging of value added products and conducted hands-on training for cup-sealer machine, hand-sealer machine and pedal sealer machine to the trainees. She explained to them the procedure of these machines to pack products like kheer, lassi, whey drinks or flavoured milks etc. She added that packaging will not only make it customer friendly but increase the aesthetics of the product and ease the sale of products in the market.
The team members motivated the farmers to adopt the scientific methods of adding value to the milk by-products and adopt the entrepreneurial approach by packing the products with modern equipment and selling them in the market.
