
About the Library
The University library has modern facility to collect, evaluate and organize information resources that adequately support the curricula of the colleges, the research programmes and the general informational needs of the university. The library is computerised and automated of its operations. The library allows open access to its collection and provides services to its users. The Campus Wide Local Area Network has been developed and a lease line of 100 Mbps with 24 hours connectivity provided under NKN Project. The State of art IT services have been utilised to provide a single point online access to various digital resources and other library services to its users. The library provides access to about 4000 journals in the broad spectrum of Agricultural Sciences including Veterinary Sciences, Animal Husbandry, Livestock Management & Poultry Sciences, Fisheries and Aquaculture, Dairy Technology, Biotechnology, Animal Nutrition and allied subjects through the Consortium for electronic Resources in Agriculture (CeRA).

Brief Introduction
Dr. Nirmal Singh has more than 16 years’ work experience. He was actively involved in development of an e-Learning portal “E-Harnirdesh” for facilitating continuity of teaching-learning activities during lock down imposed due to COVID-19 pandemic. He customized the Digital Research Repository of GADVASU, having exclusive feature to retrieve article by NAAS Rating and Impact Factor. Dr. Singh introduced Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality in the University. He also developed several educational YouTube videos and manuals to help users to access information from diverse resources.
LIBRARY SECTION(S)
Acquisition Section
The acquisition section deals with ordering of library materials, monitoring their receipt, invoice processing and accessioning. It also maintains expenditure and budget analysis under a variety of accounts/ headings.
Cataloguing section
This section takes care of cataloguing of different types of reading material procured by the Acquisition Section. The bibliographical details of reading material catalogued in this section can be accessed using Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC).
Circulation Section
This section maintains up to date membership records as well as the latest status of collection meant for circulation. It performs all functions related to circulation providing suitable checks at every stage.
Serial Section
This section is entrusted with the subscription to periodicals and subsequent monitoring of the scheduled arrival of individual issues of subscribed periodicals. This section also organizes and manages the back volumes of periodicals.
Reference Section
Reference section helps members to find quick answers to their queries and provide them required information. The reference collection in the library includes dictionaries, encyclopedias, directories, yearbooks, almanacs, etc.
LIBRARY SERVICES
Lending
The Lending service of University Library enables members to borrow books from Library for using for the privileged loan period at their own convenience. The issue/ return of books and other operations of circulation service are performed via LSEase Library Management Software.
Online access to journals through CeRA
The University Library is member of Consortium for e-Resources in Agriculture (CeRA) which provides access to nearly 3900 journals in the broad spectrum of Agricultural Science and other areas including about 300 journals in the subjects of Veterinary Sciences, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, Dairy Science & Technology and Biotechnology.
Access to databases:
The library provides access to following databases to its users:
India Agristat.com which provides statistical information on and about different sectors in India. This online database can be accessed through Internet within the Campus.
IndianJournals.com which provides online access to 25 journals related to Veterinary Science, Dairy Science and Fisheries.
Online public access catalogue
The OPAC enables users to explore the document collection of University Library. The search form in OPAC allows searching by any combination of author, title, subject/ keyword, date or format. The system has a word-based search facility using Boolean operators that can narrow down a search to meet very specific needs. Members can find the materials checked out to them.
Subsidy scheme
A subsidy scheme is operative to facilitate teachers to avail 50% subsidy on purchase of books, journals and membership of professional societies.
Reservation of books
Reservation service to allow the members to reserve the books already issued to other members. Members may get the required books reserved by filling up the reservation form available at the circulation counter. The member will be informed by e-mail when the book is returned by other member. The reserving member must collect the book with in four days of the issue of intimation, failing which the same shall go back to normal circulation. The member shall not be allowed to have more than two books reserved at one time.
Photocopying Services
The photocopying services are available to the readers under the terms of ‘Fair Use’ on payment of Rs 0.50 per page

RULES & REGULATIONS
Membership
Students, faculty members and staff of the university are eligible to become members of the library. The persons other than those listed above can be enrolled as members on the recommendations of the officers of the university/ Heads of the Departments, subject to the approval of the University Librarian/Vice-Chancellor on payment of following charges:

Casual members | Annual Membership of Rs 600/- |
The University Librarian reserves the right for enrolment of casual members to the library.
Loan privileges
The bonafide members shall be permitted to borrow books from the library by producing library card. The number of books a borrower can take and the period for which can retain is as follows:

Overdue charges
The following overdue charges shall be charged from members, if they fail to return the library material within the stipulated time period as indicated on due-date-slip in book(s).
General books: | Rs 1 per day per book (a grace period of 4 days is provided and minimum fine charged is Rs. 5/-) |
Overnight text books: | Rs 1 per hour per book |
Overnight bound volumes: | Rs 1 per hour per volume |
General rules
- It is advisable to keep the library card in safe custody to avoid any misuse.
- Always bring the library card for library usage.
- The member is responsible for all the books/journals issued on his/her card.
- The member will produce his/her card at the time of borrowing books.
- Before borrowing, member should ensure that the book is in good condition and no page is missing.
- Sub lending of books is not allowed.
- The member can obtain ‘No Dues Certificate’ from the library after returning all the books issued to him/her and surrendering the card.
- The Library staff on duty is authorized to search any person on entry and exit of the Library.
- Smoking, making noise, spitting, use of mobile or doing anything else which may disturb other readers or may be against the discipline of the institution is strictly prohibited.
- Personal books, files, raincoats, umbrellas etc. should be placed at the property counter.
- The Librarian is empowered to recall any library material at any time according to circumstances especially at time of stock verification.
- Theft and mutilation of the library material, damaging or defacing of the library property is punishable under rules.
