National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit

The vision of NSS unit is to groom and build the youth with the mind and spirit to serve the society and work for the social upliftment of the under privileged sectors of our nation as a movement. The primary aim of unit is Community Service while undergoing instruction in the university. The unit activities sensitize social consciousness of students and provide them with the opportunity to work with the people around the educational campuses creatively and constructively, and to put the education they receive to concrete social use. The unit activities also shape and improve the overall personality of the students while offering service to the society. The University is successfully running the National Service Scheme Programme with more than 300 allotted seats by Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. The various activities undertaken by NSS unit in a period of 2022-23 are given below:

NSS Volunteers registered and virtually participated in the inaugural speech of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji at 25th National Youth Festival on January 12, 2022 and also submitted essays on the topics, India of my dreams-Vision 2047 and Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav-Local Unsung Heroes/Freedom Fighters for selection of Best Entries at National Youth Festival 2022
NSS Volunteers participated in “Narration writing a short true incident on Indian Army Day” on 15 January 2022
NSS volunteers of the College of Animal Biotechnology participated in the program on “Save Soil campaign” on 30 March 2022, organized at MSVH Auditorium, Silver Jubilee Block
Volunteers participated in Expert Talk on Environment with a focus on Save Soil as a part of 50th anniversary of Earth Day on March 30 2022 at Seminar Hall, MSVH Clinics, Silver Jubilee Block, Ludhiana
NSS volunteers participated in the Awareness Program on Alcohol Addiction and Drug Abuse among Youth on 11 May 2022 held at the Silver Jubilee Block Auditorium by making posters. This campaign was initiated by Sh. Kaushal Kishore, Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India.
NSS volunteers joined an online seminar on Media Literacy and Debunking Yoga Myths on 01 June 2022 held to mark the approaching International Yoga Day on 21 June 2022. This seminar was organized by Dr. Pragya Kaushik, an independent media educator.
National Soil Day was celebrated at Rose Garden, Civil Lines, Ludhiana on 5 December 2022 by the NSS volunteers.
NSS volunteers participated in the online “Campus Reporter Program” (an introductory meeting) on 5 December 2022, addressed by Ms Surbhi Malik IAS, Deputy Commissioner & Ms Shena Aggarwal IAS, Municipal Commissioner.
NSS volunteers took the oath for traffic safety on December 9, 2022 at the lawns of the College of Animal Biotechnology.

Activities under Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav
(i) Session on Mantras on Mind Management was held on June 8, 2022 at Lecture Hall (first floor), Small Animal Clinic. The Session was chaired by Mr. Sanchit Jain, Faculty and State Head, Art of Living Youth Programmes.
(ii) Partition Horrors Remembrance Day: A walk-in digital exhibition of partition pictures was shown on ‘Partition Horrors Remembrance Day’ on August 10, 2022 at Virtual Classroom at College of Dairy Science and Technology, Ludhiana.
(iii) Webinar on Food Health Planet: Vegan Outreach Society organised a Certification Webinar on the impact of our diet on the environment, animals and our health while celebrating the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav on September 28, 2022.
(iv) A digital exhibition on ‘Sardar Patel – The Architect of Unification’ was held on November 2, 2022 at Virtual Classroom at College of Dairy Science and Technology, to celebrate the life and contributions of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
(v) Interaction on Drug Prevention and Treatment with Brig. Kuljit Singh from Heartfulness Education on November 30, 2022 from at Auditorium, College of Animal Biotechnology.
(vi) 10 days Adventure Camp: Renu Kumari, College of Fisheries and Renee Thephail, College of Dairy Science and Technology attended 10 days NSS Adventure Camp from October 7-16, 2022 held at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Water Sports Centre, Pong Dam, HP.
(vii) 7 days National integration Camp: Aayushi Bhalla and Harmandeep Singh of College of Veterinary Science, Rampura Phul attended National Integration camp held from May 20-26, 2022 at Chitkara University, Rajpura.
(viii) Voter’s day Pledge: NSS volunteers and NCC cadets were administered Voter’s Day pledge at the University Campus on January 25, 2023.
(ix) 7 Days NSS Special Camp: A 7 days NSS Special camp from 06-02-2023 to 12-02-2023 with the theme of Youth for Green Initiative and Skill Development in Punjab- “Pradushan mukt vatavaran te hunar vikas nu pranaye Punjab de naujvan” was organised at Ludhiana in which 60 NSS Volunteers from various colleges participated.
