Veterinary Microbiology
- The Department of Veterinary Microbiology was set up in 2020 i.e. one year after the establishment of College of Veterinary Science in Rampura Phul, Bathinda. This department mainly focuses on teaching, research and extension activities in the discipline of Veterinary Microbiology. Currently, this department offers various courses of Veterinary Microbiology for B.V.Sc. and A.H. degree programme. The department has well established laboratories for carrying out undergraduate teaching as well as research in Veterinary Microbiology. This department also extends its laboratory facilities and diagnostic services to other departments of the college, farmers and veterinarians.

Area of research
- Research impetus to the department which results in sanctioning of nine Extra Mural Research Project –ICAR(2), DBT(2), UGC(3), DST(1), BBSRC UK(1).
- Research Administration: PI in 4 Extra Mural Projects involving expertise of scientists working in different disciplines/deptt. (a) Internationally with Royal Vet College London & (b) Nationally: ICAR Niche area of excellence involving 15 scientists across disciplines, DBT network on brucellosis & ICAR Network on HS.
- DST FIST program for PG infrastructure development: First time earned by Uni &helped in establishing advance infrastructure facilities
- Students Research: Guided Masters (14+2*) & PhD (2) for keeping in view the mandate & priority of the department, university and State. The work has culminated in development & standardisation of newer techniques which are now being used routinely in the department and have potential field application vis-a-vis rapid diagnosis & strategic control program. As dean PGS nominee, evaluated the synopsis of research work of different disciplines and gave suggestions w.r.t. mandate of the university and department vis-a-vis priority of the state.
- Conducted research on Brucellosis, HS, Genital campylobacteriolsis, JD, mycotic diseases, mycotoxicology etc.
- Development and standardization of pressure mini column technique for the rapid and economical detection of aflatoxins in animal feeds/ fodder-routinely used, ELISA for aflatoxin B1, Molecular detection of important pathogens using PCR and qPCR, molecular heterogeneity among bacterial pathogens (Brucella, Pasteurella multocida) on the basis of different molecular markers, Development of new & rapid nucleic acid detection based techniques- LAMP for detection Brucella and Pasteurella, cytokine gene expression in response to Pasteurella multocida, multiplex PCR for detection of Brucella spp. & str19, multiplex PCR for detection of pathogens of abortion.
