Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology
- The Department of Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology was established in the year 2021 under the umbrella of the College of Veterinary Science, Rampura Phul. The department imparts teaching, research and extension activities in the discipline of Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology. Currently, the department offers a 4+1 credit hour course to the B.V.Sc. & A.H. students during the third professional of the degree programme as per MSVE-2016 regulations. The department additionally provides a 2+1 credit course to the second-semester student of the D.V.S. & A.H.T. programme. Presently, the department has three highly qualified young and dynamic teaching faculty to impart high standards of education to undergraduate students. The aim and objective of pharmacology and toxicology teaching is to prepare students to have competency with the present knowledge and skills to understand how drugs and chemicals interact with biological systems and to identify and manage the risks associated with them.
- The department is actively engaged in different extension activities such as the dissemination of technical knowledge about toxicities and drugs and entrepreneurship opportunities in the field of pharmacology and pharmaceutics. The department provides services to the farmers by facilitating the testing facility for toxicological sample analysis of clinical and non-clinical origin. The department imparts technical guidance to the farmers regarding livestock poisoning and their management and also engage in organizing training for the field vets and farmers.

Brief Introduction :
Dr. Milindmitra Kashinath Lonare joined this department on 26.09.2023. Dr. Lonare has an academic experience of more than 15 years. He guided 04 Master students and 1 Ph.D. student as a major advisor. He acted as co-advisor/minor advisor for more than 15 masters and Ph.D. students. He acted as Principal Investigator in 2 research projects and co- investigator in 04 research projects funded by prestigious research agencies, including, CCRAS, UGC, RKVY etc. He published about 40 research articles, >10 popular technical articles in reputed National and International journals and he delivered many invited lectures in conferences, workshops, and trainings. He contributed in 7 UG and PG practical manuals and 04 book chapters. He attended International and National seminars and conferences and become a life member in many Professional Bodies and editorial board member in the journals. He is very much instrumental and his expertise is the field of stem cell biology, molecular pharmacology, health impact of xenobiotics and mitigation through bioactive compounds. He received Fellow of the Society of Toxicology, Young Scientist, NESA Eminent Scientist Award, Best Veterinary Scientist, Best Editor in Chief (Toxicology International Journal) and several best research poster presentation awards from scientific societies. He is an Executive Committee member of the Society of Toxicology, India (STOX) from the Year 2017 and Editor in Chief of the journal “Toxicology International” from the Year 2017.

- The Department of Veterinary Pharmacology & Toxicology and Department of Veterinary Public Health & Epidemiology, COVS, Rampura Phul has organised a Refresher training programme on “Diagnosis of Poisoning cases and Infectious diseases in Animals” from 10-12th Nov, 2022 for Veterinary Officers of Animal Husbandry Department, Govt. of Punjab.
- The Department of Veterinary Pharmacology & Toxicology and Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education has organized awareness camp related to Lumpy skin disease
