Know About the College
The foundation stone of the College was laid on 30th October, 2014 by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Punjab. The college became functional from the academic session 2019-20 with the admission of first batch of undergraduate students, B.V.Sc & A.H programme. The college campus is spread over an area of 67 acres comprising of College Buildings, hospital, animal farms, and fodder production area. There is hostel facility for the boys and girls students. There is a well-equipped Teaching Veterinary Hospital to cater the needs of large and small animal health care. The latest diagnostic equipments including X-ray machines, ultrasound etc are available. The college has a well-established diagnostic laboratory for the examination of blood, urine, faeces and tissues etc.
Mandate
- To provide opportunities for enduring education for budding professionals in Veterinary Science.
- To run “Referral” hospital for specialized treatment and provide clinical training to students.
- To provide consultancy and specialist services to livestock owners, government, semi-government and allied agencies.
- To encourage faculty development by providing opportunities to participate in appropriate training programmes, conferences, workshops, seminars, symposia etc.
- To encourage teamwork and collaboration with other departments, colleges, universities and industries, both nationwide and globally
Goals
- To train veterinary professionals including Master’s and Doctorate level specialists competent of handling livestock vigor and production aspects according to the needs of State Government and allied agencies.
- To coordinate research in all sectors of veterinary and animal sciences with emphasis on animal health, production and processing technologies with multidisciplinary approach.
- To develop collaborative research linkages with other international and national research institutes and universities.
- To guide and assist the university scientists in acquiring funding for new research projects from national/international funding agencies.
Future Strategies:
- To define future thrust areas and execute short term/long term research strategies.
- To organize research activities designed to improve health and production of animals in state.
- Developing low cost, cutting-edge technologies that are proficiently transferable to state farmers, entrepreneurs and other stake holders.
- To orient the research mandates for economic upliftment of the state livestock farmers

Brief Introduction
Dr. Digvijay Singh former Professor & Head, Department of Veterinary Physiology and Biochemistry, GADVASU, Ludhiana has joined as Dean, College of Veterinary Science, GADVASU, Rampura Phul on 31.10.2024. Earlier, he has led the Department of Veterinary Physiology and Biochemistry, GADVASU, Ludhiana twice as Professor & Head from 2011 to 2015 and 2020 to 2024. Apart from being the Professor and Head, he has also worked as the University Librarian, GADVASU, Ludhiana from 01.04.2021 to 30.05.2022. Besides being involved in academics, he has published a total of 64 publications (23 as the first author), 12 in International journals, 40 in Indian journals and 01 review article in International Journal. Apart from this, he has 11 Invited papers in different CAFT and other training. He has presented 06 Research papers in international conferences besides presenting 27 Research papers in National Conferences along with 21 Abstracts published in the National and 15 Abstracts published in International conferences. He successfully completed the first private-sector research project undertaken by GADVASU entitled “Effect of Herbal formulation on digestibility and nutrient utilization of wheat straw in buffalo calves” sponsored by AYURVET, BADDI, guided 6 M.V. Sc. Students and compiled 3 manuals. The research carried under this project has been highly appreciated by the sponsors. Through this project, He had tried to establish industry-institution linkage. He was Co-PI in the project Clinical application of bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells from buffalo for allogenic and xenogenic cutaneous regeneration of chronic wounds with PI- Dr (Mrs.) Manjinder Sharma 1.07.2015 to 31.03.2017. UGC (MRP) Further to facilitate the research work in the college, He developed the small animal colony as its in-charge.
Besides being a referee to a number of journals, he has 3 best research paper presentation awards, D. N. Mullick memorial award presented at XXII annual conference of SAPI held at DUVASU, Mathura from Nov. 19-21, 2013 and ‘BHARAT JYOTI AWARD’ from India International Friendship Society, New Delhi for meritorious services, outstanding performance and remarkable role in his field. Dr. Singh is a life member of a number of scientific societies besides being an executive member of the Society of Animal Physiologists of India (SAPI) from 2007 to 2011. Presently he is general secretary (North India) of the Society of Animal Physiologists of India (SAPI). He has attended a number of national conferences where he has presented his research and co-chaired sessions.
